Taking payment at checkout
Open the invoice, add line items and discounts, and record the payment.
Checkout in Lumè runs off the invoice that's created with every appointment, so taking payment is mostly a matter of confirming what's owed and recording how the client paid. Open it from the appointment's Take payment button (it shows the amount due). Checkout opens as a focused, full-screen screen with no menu around it — a clean register.
Working the invoice
- Check the line items. The booked service is already there. Add more with add line item — another service, a retail product, or a custom charge for anything that doesn't fit a catalog item. You can adjust a line's price or remove it.
- Apply a discount if there is one — either a percentage off or a flat dollar amount.
- Confirm the tax. Lumè calculates it for you; an owner or manager can adjust it if needed.
- Redeem credit. If the client has a gift card, or a package or membership that covers the visit, apply it here. Package and membership credits are only actually used at this moment — checkout — not when the appointment was booked.
Recording the payment
Choose the payment method:
- Cash
- Check
- Card — run the card on your card reader, then record it here
- Gift card — when a gift card covers the whole total
- Other
Add a tip if the client is leaving one, then select Take payment. Lumè closes the invoice, records the method and amount, and marks the appointment completed — no separate step to wrap up the visit.
A note on permissions
Anyone at the front desk can ring a client up. Some actions are held back for owners and managers — changing a line's price, adjusting tax, and reopening or voiding a paid invoice — so the numbers your reports run on stay trustworthy. What happens after a payment is covered in Invoices: reopen, void, and email.
